What is USPS Final Mile?

USPS Final Mile is an additional service option offered within the carrier’s delivery levels. In this model, packages are first delivered to the nearest USPS office or hub. From there, USPS handles the final leg of delivery, bringing your package directly to you or your PO Box.

This stage is sometimes referred to as the 'last leg' of the delivery journey, where a shipment is transported from a distribution center or local post office to its final destination. While this service is more cost-effective compared to others, it typically requires a longer delivery time, averaging around 9 days.

This service is available through both UPS and FedEx, known as SurePost for UPS and SmartPost for FedEx. However, on our Platform's dashboards (under the 'Spend by Service Breakdown' pie chart in the Service Spend Vital Factor) and in Digital Agreements, it is listed as USPS Final Mile.

With SurePost, UPS delivers your package to the nearest USPS facility for final delivery. In contrast, FedEx SmartPost transfers the package to a nearby USPS hub, where it is then redistributed to the local post office for completion of the delivery.
